Of course, what could a poor turkey do when pitted against the $16 bluegill from @gatesandbrovi? This is a great fish, with a light and delightfully crunchy breading. The six fillets were more than plentiful and expertly fried. Good stuff.
A healthy amount of McDonald’s-style fries sat underneath the fish and were equally alluring. The house slaw was tangy and inviting and the “Zip Sauce” brought the, well, zip. The only miss IMO is the house tartar which is super runny and more like a dressing than a true tartar. Still, I used it all so the flavor is clearly fine, albeit untraditional.
The day after Thanksgiving is always interesting. While Black Friday means shopping like crazy to most people for me it’s something more. It’s a return to normalcy, a return home, and a return to Fish Fry. Gates & Brovi, it turns out, is just the right place to return to.gatesandbrovi.com
