Comment: Any time a new restaurant opens, supper club or not, it’s always best to let them settle in a little...kinks need to be worked out, menus need to stabilize, footings need to be found. We waited a solid five months or so for @thewindsorinwindsor to find their groove (and for us to find a free Friday) and finally made the drive out to the swanky new spot.

Our night started inauspiciously with an uncomfortably long wait at the host station, but from there everything ticked upwards. We were seated in just over the quoted 25 minutes and had a lovely semicircular booth smack dab in the middle of the noisy dining room. Our server found us instantly and grabbed our order since we’d had time to prepare during our bar-adjacent layover…panko-crusted walleye and the special “Friday French-Fry” for me and various other (non-fish) things for my wife and kid.

Whereas parts of the restaurant are still a work in progress, the kitchen was humming and my pretty piscine plate poked its way out perfectly punctually…and this thing looked great. The large walleye fillet lorded over its subjects with a brutal air that made even I, a seasoned swashbuckler, take notice.

This fillet was a brute in the best of ways. It was fat and flaky and the breading, while a little nondescript, let the meat make its mark. It partnered perfectly with the husky homemade tartar duo making for a triumphant trio that was more than enough for any mere mortal. I have a hard time envisioning needing the extra fillet for $7, but if the mood strikes you, the option is there I suppose.

The special Friday fries were like hot chips, and were perfectly fine, but the basic fries that came with Jr’s pizza would have worked for me too. The homemade slaw was also better than average as were the little cheddar-y biscuits that came on the complimentary relish tray beforehand.

While the Windsor is still receiving some mixed reviews I, for one, thought it was pretty good all in all. The food was reasonably priced and tasty, the establishment fresh and modern, and our service attentive. Overall, we recommend this Fish Fry and will certainly be back.
