Comment: When you head into a new part of the state on a Friday you can never be sure exactly what you’re gonna get. Bars? Supper Clubs? Lake Perch? Fake Perch? It can be a bit of a crap shoot but we definitely got lucky at the @chanticleerinn_eagleriverwi.

We dove into the lake-side supper club and got a lake-view table easily despite it being the height of the frying hour. We glanced at the Friday menu and I was a little surprised - the perch was like 18 bucks which made me think it couldn’t possibly be the real deal. When the waitress clarified the it was “like four butterflied pieces” I decided to roll the dice (since only real lake perch comes butterflied) figuring that meant four total fillets (two whole fish) which would make sense with for that price…

Lo and behold, when she said four she meant four full fish - a total of eight fillets, which is incredible for $18. These yellow bellies were 100% legit and blessed by a light and delightfully crumbly breading. They tasted smooth as silk and were further enhanced but the Chanti’s devilishly decadent tartar. A+ stuff.

The shoestring-style fries were nothing special but were well-fried and plentiful enough. The slaw was bright and crisp and the basket of bread beforehand featured a nice variety of which I stole the rye (mostly because no one else wanted it).

Our Memorial Weekend in the Northwoods wound up being an absolute blast and the perch at the Chanticleer definitely lit that fuse. Overall, we highly recommend this Fish Fry and would happily drop a dime on it again.
