Comment: Being that it’s the Lenten season, and the @potosibrewingco #CaveAleFishFry contest is in full swing, I really didn’t have a choice when a buddy called with Badger hockey tickets this Friday…it was time for a Fish Fry at @jordansbig10pub. End of story.
The Big 10 has long been the de facto Fish Fry on/near campus, and, to the best of my knowledge, still is. We rolled in early and had a couple beers (along with our fish order) in before the crowd swelled (and well before puck-drop). I’ve had the cod, bluegill, and perch at the B1G too many times to count over the years, but have never had the walleye - mostly because the menu only offers it grilled. I pinged the waiter as to whether they’d fry it up instead, and to my surprise, they obliged. Game on!
The walleye was a nice-sized fillet and dusted with the same light and crispy breading that adorns the bluegill. While, I’d like a heftier hit from the salt shaker, the coating does a nice job of letting the flavors from the fish come through. It paired admirably with the dill-forward tartar, and I made short work of it.
Potato pancakes no longer grace the Friday specials (or maybe I just missed them after those beers and a stiff OF) so I settled for their signature crispy fries instead…they’re always solid. Plenty of tangy slaw ran free-range on the platter but didn’t get so wild as to saturate the neighboring fries nor the slice of marble rye.
The Big 10 continues to deliver the goods on game days and Fridays alike. Overall, we recommend this Fish Fry and think the walleye definitely found the twine this week.big10pub.com/
