Comment: It had to be quick…it was. It had to be tasty…it always is. It had to keep the day on track…boy, did it ever. The $12 2-piece lunch from the @middletonsportbowl checked all the boxes today.
For twelve beans you can’t ask for much more than what the Sport Bowl delivers. I had my order in without the aid of a menu and had a plate in front of me no longer than three minutes later, and no, that is not an exaggeration. I almost fell off my barstool when it appeared so quickly. I was shocked.
What I wasn’t shocked by was the food itself though. The cod at the MSB is just done right; it’s not fancy, it’s not over-the-top, it’s just good solid fish, fried right, and served piping hot. It’s a simple formula but one so many places swing and miss on. The Bowl makes solid contact every time.
The fries are somewhat sparse but equally well-fried and satisfyingly crunchy. A near-perfect, ultra-thick, super-zesty tartar perks up the fish even more, a football roll plays along, and the slaw is creamy and consistent. Maybe it’s all just food service stuff, but in all honesty, sometime Sysco gets it right.
While I’ll never say this is the best Fish Fry I’ve ever had, I also keep coming back whenever I want a consistent Fish Fry for a good price in a timely fashion. Sometimes boxes just need to be checked, and the MSB has one of the fattest red pens around.
