Comment: After an emotionally draining day I could have easily convinced myself to just stay home tonight, but where’s the fun in that? Instead, we took an unexpectedly stressful, snow-blown drive all the way out to @milfordhills. I guess maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment…
Thankfully, the Fish Fry at the hunting club is top notch and made the trek well worth the effort. They feature cod, walleye, and bluegill on Fridays and my “Crispy Bluegill” lived up to that moniker and then some. The five fillets were covered in a super-crunchy, well-seasoned crust that was so firm they could be eaten like chips. This form also made them ideal for scooping the thick and zesty tartar.
For a dollar extra, diners can upgrade their side option to potato pancakes and I’d advise they do just that. These latkes were spectacular with subtly crusty exteriors and pillowy middles. The flavors were exemplary, especially when paired with the provided apple sauce and/or syrup. 😋
A nice little football-shaped roll played its part as did the big cup of house slaw. Normally I would have crushed both of them, but between a big lunch, and a few @potosibrewingco Cave Ales, I just couldn’t squeeze them all in tonight.
We’ve been trying to make it out to Milford Hills for years but the stars just never aligned. While I wouldn’t say they did tonight either, I was going to get out there come hell or high water, and I’m glad I did. Overall, this was a great Fish Fry and well worth the adversity we had to overcome to get to it. We’ll be back for sure./milfordhills.com/
