Comment: Finally got the “old boat” out and was able to put in at the swanky Ostego Yacht Club. If you’ve ever been out to Ostego you know how highbrow it really is. Make sure to bring your boat shoes and pink Polos…
The bluegill in the photo comes in at fourteen big bucks complete with all the trimmings plus a side of baked beans. It almost breaks the bank, but sometimes you do what you gotta do. 😜
In reality, this “club” ain’t swanky at all and $14 is a heck of a deal for these crusty little fillets - they’re worth every stinking penny. They had a subtle fishy flavor that was nicely offset by a crunchy breading. I also got to sample a bit of the beer battered cod, and while the bluegill was great, the cod was exemplary. Next time, 3-piece cod all the way.
The fish comes with either crispy steak fries or hash browns, and my cheese and onion slathered shreds were superb. mmm mmm mmm
The supper club style tartar was also pretty much perfect and took the fish up another notch. Hot damn! The slaw was standard but tasty, the roll was the same, and the side of baked beans was a most welcome addition.
Over the years I’ve heard several times that I need to try the Fish Fry at the Yacht Club, and that it was the best in all of Wisconsin (not kidding). While I don’t know that I’d go quite that far, I agree that it was pretty damn good.
Overall, I’d highly recommend this Fish Fry and think it was easily worth the hourlong drive from Middleton. We’ll be back for sure.www.facebook.com/hereforagoodtimetorelax/
