Comment: Heading back to the #Driftless on Hwy 14, took a left in #LoneRock, and got lost in The Woods. Luckily for us, they have great food!
The 3-piece haddock runs $14 and is a bargain at that. The fish was dense and flaky with a superb beer batter that held up to the brawny fillets. Nary a speck of grease formed which made for delightful munching from start to finish.
The Cowboy Potatoes (creamy cheesy hash browns) were outstanding, the tartar was thick and zesty and made the fish so much more, and the slaw was yummy. Bread doesn’t typically come with the fish but there are some nice rolls on the salad bar…
There was also a tenderloin and some surf & turf at our table, both of which got devoured. Like the fish, they were unassumingly superb and made for a fantastic little Friday.
Overall, I’d highly recommend this Fish Fry and won’t hesitate to take that left turn next time we’re cruising past the Rock. Hell, I might make us stop on the way back through! It was THAT good.thewoodslonerock.com
