Of course, in this life, you get what you pay for, and the legit lake perch lunch at Mark's East Side is the full $25 dinner price. I know people will say that I’m crazy for even considering paying that, but haul me off to the looney bin because I’d do it again any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. THIS perch was THAT good.
Before the fish, a fresh salad comes with a side of their insanely delicious hot bacon dressing by default. While diners might be inclined to branch out, or fallback on ranch, trust me, stick to the house special. Likely the best bacon dressing I’ve ever had.
The perch followed closely in the salad’s wake and was among some of the finest I’ve seen. The three butterflies were plump and juicy with a mild sweetness and tender flake. They were home to a perfectly light and crispy breading with just a hint of seasoning. The combo of texture and taste let the fish shine through. Otherworldly.
A smattering of crinkle-cut fries did their job as well and were perked up just a bit but a similarly pleasant seasoning. Two cups of house tartar came along for dipping and, like the perch, it was pert-near perfect.
Marks East Side is high in the running for the Potosi Brewing Co. Best Fish Fry in the Appleton area and I can see why. The perch was pretty much perfect and the everything else supported it well. Overall, I highly recommend this Fish Fry and think it’s some of the best perch I’ve ever had…maybe THE best. 😮markseastside.com/lunch-menu/
