Comment: The Fish Fry at the Seminole Tap is really well-rounded and features a few nice little perks that help take things over the top.

The Tap has their 2 or 3-piece cod on the menu every day of the week, but when Friday rolls around walleye joins its saltwater friend. The hearty and flaky walleye fillet is home to a benign beer batter that lets the flavor of the fish shine through. Its cod counterpart shares the same beer batter and has a similar flaky texture.

There are several sides to choose from, but as soon as I heard potato pancakes my mind was made up. PPs are hard to come by in the Madison area and this duo was superb. While they were on the thick side, they were delightfully crispy and had a rich flavor. Their only shortcomings was a lack of apple sauce or syrup on the side…probably something I could have asked for, but didn’t.

The tartar was a little thin, but had a good zip and clung to the fish with reckless abandon. The slaw seemed to be homemade and was well-balanced, while the slice of rye on the side was a step in from grandma’s dinner roll.

The Seminole Tap is rolling through the Potosi Best Fish Fry Southwest bracket and I can see why they are getting so much love. The fish is solid, but the supporting cast is superb. Overall, we recommend this Fish Fry as well, and think the Seminole has some serious staying power.
