Comment: After a long, hot day I was more than ready for a Fish Fry and @tofflerspub_newglarus delivered.
The Friday special at Tofflers isn’t fancy but at a bar that’s been “a blight on New Glarus since 2006” you wouldn’t really expect it to be. The 3-piece cod was incredibly satisfying and I pretty much devoured every last crumb.
This Fry starts and ends with the Spotted Cow battered cod (which is how it should be - this is NG after all). These chunks of fish are fat and flaky and the batter light and crispy - just good, solid cod. Each bite was bumped a bit their clingy and tasty tartar. A small pile of julienne-cut fries were just ok, as was the slaw which I think was homemade.
One of the little football-shaped rolls is supposed to come along for the ride but was tardy today and didn’t make the photo. It arrived shortly after we inquired about its absence. A fine option.
I’ve known about the Fish Fry at Tofflers for a while but with the other options in the New I couldn’t bring myself to go there for it - I mean, the Glarner Stube…right? When they showed up in the @potosibrewingco Fish Fry contest I knew I couldn’t put it off a longer, and I’m glad we finally gave it a whirl. Overall, this is an easy one to recommend and I can hardly wait to throw the kid’s leftovers on a sandwich sometime this week.www.tofflers.com/
