Comment: It wasn’t the nicest night for a drive, but we took one anyway. I mean, we don’t typically have the time to trek all the way out to Hubbleton these days so we seized the opportunity when it arose.
A buddy turned me on the Fish Fry at the Hubbleton Brewing Co. Taproom & Grill and I’m glad he did. The Friday specials are numerous but I simply couldn’t get the 8-piece bluegill with a side of cheesy potatoes off my mind. I tacked on and Old Fashioned and figured I’d have time for a beer before the food came...I figured wrong.
While the OF came relatively quickly, the fish fried alarmingly fast. Seriously, it arrived about four minutes after we ordered which barely gave us enough time to get a sip and a rip (of our pull tabs). The bluegill was plentiful, and keeping with the theme, I wasted no time tearing into it.
The sunfish were simply superb. Each chubby fillet was perfectly-fried, nice and juicy, and dusted with a well-seasoned dry breading. It was easily some of the best bluegill I’ve had recently. The cheesy potatoes didn’t quite live up to the standard set by the sunfish, but were plentiful and satisfying.
The tartar sits in a big squeeze bottle at the table and thus, was equally plentiful. It was thick as molasses with a bold flavor that paired perfectly with the bluegill. Outstanding stuff. The colorful and tasty slaw appeared to be made in-house, and the slice of marble rye was soft and fresh.
Hubbleton is a destination if ever there was one and their Fish Fry makes it one you should definitely check out. The bluegill was great, the cod looked excellent, and the other options were alluring as well. Overall, we highly recommend this Fish Fry and won’t hesitate to come back if and when we find the time.www.hubbleton.com
