Comment: Public Service Announcement: The Fish Fry Platter from Ama Kitchen is legit.

I chose the $22 lake perch and sampled the $20 cod and both were easily recommendable. This is real deal yellow perch and while there were only four fillets, I’ll gladly pay the price for those four smaller fillets over two or three of the larger imposters. The fish was light and flaky and skinned with an equally light batter that let the flavor of the fish shine through. The cod shared the same breading and was even flakier and maybe even more pure (if that’s even possible). Great stuff all around.

The fries were basic julienne cuts, but like the fish, were well fried. A couple unlisted tots and hush puppies found their way into the mix as well - bonus! The lemon-dill tartar had me worried, but the lemon essence wasn’t over the top, the dill was complimentary, and the sauce was nice and thick. All in all it was excellent and totally took the fish over the top.

Rounding things out were the slaw and a side salad. The slaw might have been as fresh as we’ve ever seen and was simply delicious. The salad came beforehand and while the salad (and its dressing), were superb, I regretted not getting the dal (for a change of pace) and would try that next time around.

Typically ethnic restaurants that try their hand at Fish Fry struggle to get it right, but Ama bucks that trend and then some. The “Nepali meets Classic American” spot knocked this one out of the park and we’ll definitely be back again. Overall, we recommend this Fish Fry, and maybe even highly so. Well done, Ama!
